Hi Amy!
I am the gentleman that was the starring feature in your article last week. I originally thought that I was going to be the only one who was going to be "nannied" by the entirety of the N&R reading audience, but now I am glad to see that I'm not alone (serves you right for reviewing those chicken wings the week prior).
Anyway, I am down 2.5 pounds since hizzoner motivated me to meet him at the Y last week. I can only assume that most of this is water weight, and getting on the scale sans clothing doesn't hurt, either. (up next -- shaving all of my body hair to squeeze out an extra 2 ounces!)
Amy, keep up the good work. I look forward to contributing to your blog and otherwise staying in touch during the process. You are not alone.
Hi Jordan,
Glad to see you found the blog. Keep us posted on your progress - even if it's only shaving all of your body hair! :)
Amy, I'm sure you'll hear from the expert how much exercise is enough. Let me share with you my experience on what type of exercise is enough.
Through my late 20s & early 30s, as I steadily let a couple of pounds per year creep on, I seemed never to get any benefit at all from exercise. I tried treadmills, stair climbers, aerobics classes of all kinds -- never seemed to make any difference at all.
What finally made the difference was adding weight-lifting to my routine. I know that there are all kinds of scientific reasons why this is so. The only one that sticks in my head is that muscle burns fat, even when you aren't exercising! (wish I could properly credit a source on this, but I really don't remember where I got it) The difference was amazing and ongoing. Go ahead & get in your 30 minutes of cardio as you are doing now, but add at least 15 minutes of weights and watch that machine kick into gear!
