Morning vs. night

God, I hate getting up in the morning to go to the gym. But it really does feel good to know you're done with it for the day.

Does it matter if you work out early or late in the day? What are the pros and cons of both?

What do you do?

Here's one answer from Outside Online.

I go early, but only because I'm up anyway. To me, getting the blood going makes for a better day and helps me handle the stress better. The only downside is there aren't many pretty people there as early as I go... They tend to be there when it's, like 6 p.m., and packed.

well if the point is actually going to workout, as opposed to "hooking up" then i found that the mornings work better. less folks = more time on the machines. an added bonus is you don't have to (pretend to be nice/or hurt the feelings) of people trying to impress you. you mentioned the biggest draw back to going in the mornings, getting up early.

Believe me, I'm not worried about looking good or impressing anyone when I go to the gym.
The only thing I'm worried about is not falling off one of those machines.

If I wake up soon enough I go early. If I don't I have all day to come up with excuses of why I can't go in the afternoon.

I'm fairly obsessive about going in the morning, 5 days a week. My biggest reason for morning workouts is that, unlike at 6pm, I don't have any excuses other than that I'd sure like to sleep a little more!
I've tried just going 3 days a week, but then every morning it's like giving myself the option not to go. With 5 days a week, there's no question -- I just get up & go. It's now part of my routine, part of my life.
I pack my gym bag the night before, which really helps with eliminating my excuses, too.
Good luck!
After two weeks, you really do start to get used to it.

I'm with you Dawn! Really my only excuse in the morning is that I want to sleep a little longer.

At night, I use finishing up work and then hunger to avoid going to the gym.

I am starting to go to bed a little earlier, so hopefully my body will start adjusting to earlier hours.

i tend to actually have problems sleeping at night, so i usually work out as late as i can and just pass out afterwards
